D-POS Quickstart Guide

You have bought D-POS, and now you want to start using it as quickly as possible? Of course.
Therefore we created this Quickstart guide, and you'll see that with D-POS, it's really easy to computerize your business.
Basically, what you'll need to do are :
Unpack the package
Start D-POS
Input suppliers
Input items
Start the cashier with D-POS
Enter cashier's deposit
Start selling (my favorite part)
Close the cashier
See sales report for the day
Yes, it's that simple. Anyway, a computer is supposed to make things easy, not harder, isn't it ? We're simply trying to accomplish that with D-POS.
Here goes the details :
1. Unpack the package
When you purchased D-POS, you'll receive an email with instructions on how to download it.
Once you got it downloaded, you'll need to unpack it.
a. Locate the downloaded package
Usually it'll be on the Desktop. Just double-click on the file named DPOS.EXE.
It'll then ask you where to unpack its contents, but you can just press Enter, so it'll unpack the files to C:\DPOS\, as shown below :

b. Now open My Computer, then choose (C:), then folder dpos.
Once opened, look for the file named _ThePOS.BAT.
Click on the right-mouse button, then choose menu Send To – Desktop (create shortcut)

This will create a shortcut to _ThePOS.BAT on the Desktop, which will make things very convenient for us.
That's it ! We've unpacked the package, and have even created an icon for it on the Desktop. Now let's start using it, shall we ?
2. Start D-POS
To start D-POS, just double-click on the _ThePOS.EXE icon on the Desktop :

It will then start, and ask for username & password.
Just enter ADMIN as the username, and also ADMIN as the password (shown as asterisks), then press Enter :

D-POS quickly spur into action. After you log in in the screen above, D-POS will start doing a lot of things in a very short time. Within just a few seconds, you'll see the following menu on your screen :

Well done ! You have successfully started D-POS.
Now we can start entering some data into D-POS. Despite what people said, computer actually is very dumb. D-POS helps somehow to make it smarter, but still you need to tell it what it needs to do.
And before D-POS can help make it smarter, you need to let it know about a few things – your suppliers, and items that they supply.
Don't worry, it's still very easy to do. It's actually easier than the two chapters before ! So let's begin !
3. Input Suppliers
From the main menu, choose 1.Master, then 3.Supplier.
You'll see the following screen :

You can press the arrow keys to browse around.
On top of the screen, you can see the name of various keyboard buttons which you can press and what it'll do.
Anyway, at the moment you want to add new suppliers.
Press F1, to Add a new supplier Record. Then you'll see the following screen :

Code : Enter the short codename for this supplier. (mandatory)
Name : Enter the full name of this supplier (mandatory)
Address : Address of the supplier
City : City of the supplier
Phone : Phone number of the supplier
Fax : Fax number of the supplier
Contact Person : Who's going to be your contact over there.
Once filled, it will then ask you to save or discard it. Choose YES to save the record.
To add more suppliers, just press F1 again.
That's it. Now, we can start entering the data of our goods / items into D-POS.
4. Input Items
From the main menu, choose 1.Master, then 1. Goods, then 1. Browse Items.
Press F1 to start entering a new item to D-POS's database :

Although it seems like a lot of work, actually you just need to enter the following :
Code : the barcode of that item
Name : Name of the item
Initial stock : number of items available for sale
Unit : usually pcs (pieces)
Base Price : the price of the item when we bought it from our supplier
Sale Price : the price that we want to sell the item to our customer
Supplier : the supplier for this item
As soon as we finished choosing the supplier, then press ESC.
This will bring up the red window asking if you want to save it or not. Choose YES, then the item will be saved to the database.
Congratulations, you have managed to input your first item. To continue entering another item, just press F1 again, until you've got all items entered into the database. Now we're ready to sell to our customers.
5. Start the Cashier
Finally, now we can start selling. Here's how :
Enter Cashier's Initial Cash (Opening the Cashier)
At the beginning of the day, you need to put money into the cashier. The reason is simple, you'll need the money for change. This will also open the cashier, without the initial cash the cashier won't be allowed to sell.
To put money into the cashier, choose 2. Selling, then 6. Cashier Init Cash. You'll see the following displayed :

Date : today's date, it's already filled by computer for you.
Cashier's TLC : cashier's code name. Just press Enter here to show up a list of available cashiers
Cashier's Name : cashier's name
Initial Cash Amt. : amount of money you're putting in initially for this cashier.
Once done, then choose YES. The cashier is now able to sell.
Start Selling
To start selling, we'll need to log in as the cashier that has the initial cash.
First you log out, by choosing 9. Log Out,

then choose 9. Log In as shown. Enter CASHIER1 as the user, and CASHIER1 again as the password :

You're logged in as CASHIER1 (the cashier with the cash). Now choose 2.Selling, and then 1. Cashier.
You'll see the following screen :

Just keep on pressing Enter until the display change into the following :

Let's sell !
To sell, just scan the item's barcode with your scanner. It'll show up immediately on the screen. Easy !
You don't need your hands on the keyboard, you can instead concentrate on just passing the items over the barcode scanner as quickly as possible.
If you don't have a barcode scanner, just type the barcode's number and press Enter.
note: while you're typing the numbers, there'd be no change on the screen. But don't worry, as soon as you press Enter, the item will then show up on the screen.
If you need to change the quantity of an item, just go over the item and press Enter. You'll see the following screen :

Now you can change the quantity into whatever you want. Press Enter to save the change.
If you're done, now its time to receive the payment. Press ESC will enable you to accept payment from the customer :

Type the amount paid, then press Enter.
Note the change, give it to the customer, and then press Enter again.
TIPS:
By default, the currency in D-POS is US$.
If your
currency is different, refer to D-POS User's Guide (chapter 11.6) to
find out how to change it.
Now D-POS will ask if you want to print the receipt or not :

Pressing Y will print the receipt, pressing N will not print it.
After that, D-POS is now ready to process the next transaction :

If you're finished, pressing ESC here will return you back to the menus. Pressing Enter will start the next transaction.
Close Cashier
After a hard day's work, finally it's time to close the shop and the cashier.
To close the cashier, choose 2. Selling, then choose 6. Cashier Deposit.
Here you can see that the money in CASHIER1's drawer is US$ 101.85. To close the cashier, just deposit the same amount, in this case, US$ 101.85.

Choose YES.
So D-POS now declares that the cashier name FITRI is now closed, and no longer able to sell :

6. See Sales Report for the day
Just before you exit the shop, you want to know how much you made today from all of the cashiers. You can find this out with the help of the Sales Report.
Choose 2.Selling, then choose 2.Sales Report. You'll see the following screen :

Choose 3> Sales Dtl. Per Day, then press Enter. You'll see this screen :

Enter today's date on both the FROM and TO field, then press Enter. Then choose Screen to show the report on screen.
The report is now shown on your screen :

Note that the report is bigger than what's shown on the screen. Press the navigational keys (Arrow keys / PgUp / PgDn / Home / End) to browse around the report.
TIPS : Seeing a slightly different screen than shown above ? Just press Ctrl-PgDn !
Once you're done, just press ESC.
Congratulations ! You've successfully went through your first day, selling with help from D-POS.
As you can see, D-POS is very easy to use. However, when you need flexibility, then D-POS also offers it. You can do so much with it. D-POS will enable you to grow your business. It will take care of the details, so you can concentrate on things that matters.
